Please help me congratulate, and wish good luck to the following former Rocks wrestling at the collegiate level this weekend! Brothers Victor Guzman and Antonio Parker both qualified for the NAIA National Tournament wrestling for Cumberland University. Victor is currently ranked #1, but both are looking for a National Title! Last years NJCAA National Champion at 197, Andrew Marquez will look to repeat for Indian Hills College, while Truth Vesey, currently ranked 3rd for Harper College, will also be in the mix to win it all at 125!
The junior high (IESA) and Youth Club (IKWF) post-seasons began this weekend. The Washington Warriors and Edison Eagles represented in the IESA regional tournament at Rocky on Saturday. Washington had 5 individual champions and 18 wrestlers placing in the top three of their weight class qualifying them to nexts weekends Sectional tournament. Edison had 2 Champions, and 4 others place top 3 to qualify for Sectionals. The Warriors also won the regional tournament as a team, while The Eagles took 3rd. The Rock Island girls wrestling team also won their IKWF regional tournament today in both the Novice and Senior divisions with 5 champions and all 12 girls qualifying for next weekends sectional tournament at Rocky. Courtney Walls is the 2026 Girls State Champion at 190 lbs! She won 9-0 in the finals, capping off her year with a 33-0 record, and she’s only a Junior! She’s the first Girls State Champion in Rocky history!
Up 13-1, Courtney Walls took her opponent down to her back and won via fall in the State Semi-final! She will wrestle at 2:00 p.m. in the finals for a State Championship!
Day 1 of Girls State is done, and Courtney Walls is guaranteed a medal with a top 6 finish! She won two matches entering her into tomorrow morning’s semi-final round. If she wins, she will be the first Girls State Finalist for the Rocks!
Congratulations to Rowan Stockwell! He took 4th place at the State Tournament!!! Congratulations as well to Angelo Parker and Emilio Guzman who also qualified but fell just short of placing.
